Gospel Meets Symphony has unleashed its indescribable power in Akron for 20 glorious years. Come celebrate the inspiring talent that brings Akron together, and makes us one community, year after year. The 72 piece symphony orchestra under the direction of Maestro Christopher Wilkins is joined by a rousing rythem section and a 200-voice Gospel Choir under the gentle guidance of Maestro Jenifer Mekel Jones for this unique and musical and spiritual experience.
Keep Listening! 1590 WAKR has tickets to Gospel Meets Symphony all this week through Wednesday, February 20th. 1590's Chuck Collins will welcome you to the second half in his unique and usual way.

The Gospel Meets Symphony committee originated from the Community Outreach and Minority Engagement Committee (COMEC) in 1991 under the leadership of Ann Lane Gates, the first Gospel Meets Symphony Chair. The purpose was to “study the need and develop strategies to improve and increase the interest and services of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Chorus, and the Akron Youth Symphony, within the minority community of greater Akron.” This committee is part of the Greater Akron Musical Association’s overall outreach efforts to make symphonic and choral music accessible to all.
Today Mrs. Gates along with many members of the Gospel Meets Symphony community, including committee chair, Brenda Justice are keeping the tradition alive. And we are looking for another 20 years of community collaboration through music.
