HOLIDAY ROAD CLOSURES:
City officials are already closing roads to make room for the 4th of July holiday event.
Now through Sunday:
- Main Street is closed between State and Bowery.
- Church Street and University Avenue are both closed between Main and High.
- Rand Avenue is closed between Glendale Avenue and the Cedar Street bridge.
Saturday: Route 59 will be closed between Cedar Street and Main at 6:30 a.m. But at 8:30 p.m., just in time for the event, Route 59 will be closed to all traffic at I-76.
All of the above roads are expected to re-open by 6 a.m. on Sunday.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES (sorted by county):
Summit County
- Martha Avenue is closed south of the Goodyear Technical Center for at least two weeks beginning Monday, June 29 for construction. The exit ramp from I-76 East to Martha Avenue is also set to be closed throughout the duration of the project.
- Each direction of I-77 between routes 21 and 303 has a variety of lane restrictions until further notice due to a new construction layout.
- Seasons Road under Route 8 is closed until early September for reconstruction. Suggested detour: Wyoga Lake Road to Steels Corners Road to Hudson Drive.
- From early May until further notice, the Wilbeth Road exit ramp from I-77 South will be closed week nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Suggested detour is the Archwood Avenue exit from I-77 South to Arlington to Wilbeth.
- From early May until further notice, Route 8 North has various lane restrictions between Howe Avenue and Graham Road. That stretch of roadway will be down to two lanes from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. And then from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. traffic will be reduced to one lane. This is the start of a $6 million project to resurface the roadway.
- North Street between Howard and Furnace streets is closed for the continuation of a reconstruction project. Drivers are being detoured around the closure via Dan Street, Glenwood Avenue and Howard Street. That stretch of road will remain closed until July 1. Local and emergency access will be maintained.
- I-271 over SR 8 is reduced to one through-lane and one exit-only lane in each direction as part of the SR 8/I-271 reconstruction project. Completion date: summer 2010.
- From late April until further notice, Route 8 north between Graham Road and Route 303 is down to two lanes for pavement repairs.
- From early April until further notice, Route 8 under I-271 has a variety of lane restrictions throughout the work week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- ODOT will be restricting the southbound lanes of I-271 in Boston Township over the Cuyahoga River. Police will be out helping ODOT officials keep traffic moving slowly so they can have a space to unload hundreds of thousands of pounds of steel beams. You could see 10-15 minute delays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily for the next few weeks.
- I-271 in Boston Township over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is down to one lane each way daily from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. until October 2009.
Portage County
- In Kent, drivers will notice that Middlebury Road is closed for a bridge replacement project. The road is set to reopen in May.

- Through October 6, the I-71 Northbound ramp to Route 224 West is closed for construction. Posted detour route is I-71 to east on I-76. Drivers then need to go north on Route 3 then west on I-76. That will get drivers back to 224 West.
- SR 18 between Windfall Rd. and the Medina/Summit County line is down to one lane for construction. Boneta Rd. is closed at SR 18.
- Ryan Road under I-77 is closed (until further notice) for work as part of the I-71 and I-76 construction project.
Wayne County
- Through May 16, Route 226 will close one mile north of the Holmes County line for a bridge replacement project. The detour route for northbound motorists is north on Route 179 then north on Route 3, which will get drivers back to Route 226. Drivers heading south just need to take this in the reverse direction.
