Tigers survive scare from Brush
CANTON – The fourth-ranked Twinsburg Tigers survived a scare from the Brush Arcs Tuesday night in the Canton Division I Regional semifinal Tuesday night, outlasting a late Brush rally to win 53-51.
It was sophomore center Malina Howard’s in-close shot with 1.2 seconds remaining that sealed the win for the Tigers.

Showdown between No. 1 and No. 2, no contest
ONTARIO – Tiffin Columbian might wait a while before it trumpets winning the 2010 Division II girls basketball state poll championship.
The top-ranked Lady Tornadoes (23-1) were dominated by second-ranked Walsh Jesuit (22-2) Tuesday night in a regional semifinal played at Ontario High School.
Final score: Walsh 75, Tiffin Columbian 34.

Buchtel defense a case of deja vu
As I watched the Buchtel Griffins totally humiliate a decent Alliance team at the Canton District tournament last Friday night, it was a case of deja vu.
I've seen Buchtel play a suffocating full-court pressure defense all season.

McKinley girls too much in regional semifinal
CANTON – The Green girls basketball season ended Tuesday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center as Canton McKinley ran away with the Division I regional semifinal game 82-53.
The McKinley (22-3) girls rolled a 20-point lead at the half, and didn’t relent in the battle of Bulldogs teams.

Roundup: Mogadore, Windham lose; East Canton advances
WARREN – A low-scoring game in which no Mogadore player notched more than five points ended the Wildcats’ run in Division IV postseason play Tuesday as Maplewood won 49-29.
Maplewood was led by Justin Fenstermaker with 11 points and Ben Moser with 10 points.
Mogadore was led by Mike Duma, Ryan Tarter and Pat Tipton with five points each.
Maplewood plays Mathews on Friday for the district championship at Warren G.

The three leagues represented (Federal League, Northeast Ohio Conference and Suburban League) are among the mighty, and the numbers back it up.

Medina ranks 15th in Div. I state wrestling
COLUMBUS -- Three Medina Bees reached the podium at the 2010 OHSAA Wrestling Championships March 4-6 at Value City Arena.
All three qualifiers were Division I state placers: 112- Mike Griffith (eighth), 130- Matt Hammer (fourth), 152- Teddy Hammer (seventh).
The Bees ranked 15th in the team standings with 28.5 points.

Winter All-Star selections from the PAC-7
The Principals Athletic Conference has released their All-Conference teams for basketball and wrestling. Highlighting the list are three boys basketball players, five girls basketball players and nine wrestlers from Manchester and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.
In boys basketball, a pair of junior big men represent the Manchester Panthers. Center Mark Noble and forward Nick Miller made the thirteen man team. Senior forward Xavier Douglas was the only Royal selected to the squad.
Manchester senior forward Connor Mottice and CVCA senior guard Alex Mosteller earned honorable mention honors.
In girls basketball, a trio of Panthers made the cut, giving Manchester a tie with Tuscarawas Valley for most players selected to the All-Star team. Seniors Amber Silver and Karla Horvat were joined by junior Morgan VanScoy as Manchester’s representatives. The junior duo of forward Katie Defer and guard Eleni Miller take the honor of representing CVCA in girls hoops.
Senior Jackie Bonnett represented Manchester with an honorable mention, as did CVCA sophomore forward Cassandra Wilson.
Coach of the year Don Lorence brought an astonishing seven of his Royals with him to the All-Conference wrestling team, giving CVCA a representative at half of the weight classes. 103-Nathan Tomasello, state tournament champion, 125-Seth Powers, conference champion, 135-Zak Vargo, earned a third place state finish, 145-Brandon Sommers, earned a fifth place state finish, 152-David Gray, conference champion, 160-Matt Meadows, earned an eighth place state finish, and 171-Alex Utley, conference champion all represent CVCA.
Meanwhile, Kyle Kelly and Shane Brown represent Manchester. Kelly earned a fourth place finish at the state meet and Shane Brown finished fifth at the state meet.
Three Royals also made the honorable mention squad with Josh Decatur (119), Matt Dobben (130) and Nick Havener (140) earning the honors. Kyle Ferguson (103) and Josh Kapper (125) received honorable mention for the Panthers..

City teams advance in postseason
Three City Series teams have survived the first round of Ohio’s version of "March Madness," the state tournament.
The state’s top-ranked Division II team, Buchtel, hadn’t played in nearly two weeks, but it didn’t show after the first half of the Griffins' sectional game against Alliance Friday night at the Canton Fieldhouse.

Sam Wheeler finishes 53-1, state runnerup
COLUMBUS -- Copley junior Samuel Wheeler lost a 9-3 decision in the 171-pound finals at the OHSAA Wrestling Championship on Saturday at Value City Arena.
Wheeler's final season record is 53-1 and includes Dies Memorial, Suburban League, Sectional, and District titles.
His opponent Josh Demas of Westerville North completed his season 47-1.
Copley junior 140-pounder Jon Garrison (39-9) won one and lost two at the state meet..
