To make room for the 26-year-old on the 40-man roster, the Bosox placed outfielder Ryan Kalish, who is recovering from right shoulder surgery, on the 60-day disabled list.

Carp batted .213 with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 59 games last season for Seattle. He missed 78 games last season due to various injuries.

The Mariners designated Carp for assignment earlier this month to make room on their 40-man roster for pitcher Joe Saunders.
