(MELBOURNE, Australia) -- For the 16th time in her career, Maria Sharapova has advanced to a Grand Slam semifinal, this time by beating Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-2 at the Australian Open Tuesday.
It took Sharapova, the two seed, only 66 minutes to dispose of Makarova, as Sharapova continues her dominance in Australia, having lost only nine games.
"I don't want to give my opponents an opportunity to test me. That's not really my goal going out into my match," Sharapova said when asked about her dominating play. "I want to be playing my game. I want to be doing the right things. If it turns out tough, you know, I have to pull it out without playing my best, then that's the way it is. Do I prefer that....absolutely not."
Sharapova advances to take on the six seed Li Na. Li will be playing in her third Australian Open semis in the last four years.
