Kent State head men's basketball coach Geno Ford has put himself among the coaching elite at KSU.

By being voted the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the year, Ford has joined Stan Heath and Jim Christian as KSU head coaches winning such an award.

Heath won the award in 2002. Christian captured the top honor in 2006 and 2008.

The MAC season started off very slowly for the Kent State. The Golden Flashes lost two of their first three conference games. Then, Kent State won 13 of their next 14 MAC Conference games to finish in first place overall, earning the number one seed in the tournament.

Ford says while the coaches award is given to an individual, it is really a team honor.

Kent State's first game in the Mid-American Conference Tournament will be played Thursday night against Ohio University at Quicken Loans Arena.
