 11/3/2009 9:34:15 PM  |  Joe Jastrzemski, AkronNewsNow.com

It was a slow start for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Washington Wizards. But, the Wine and Gold rallied in the second half to beat the Wizards 102-90 at Quicken Loans Arena Tuesday night.

The Wizards came out of the gate in the first quarter on fire.  Washington's Caron Butler had a 13-point quarter, including nine in a row at one point.  Butler's jumper at 5:43 of the first quarter gave Washington the lead at 15-14.  The Wizards would not give up the lead for the rest of the first half.

Washington would extend the lead to 31-17 at the end of one as they shot 55% from the field in the first quarter.  Meanwhile, the Cavs were cold.  Cleveland hit only 33% of their floor shots in quarter number one.

The Wizards had the lead up to 18-points at 39-21 when Andray Blatche hit a basket with 9:30 to go in the second quarter.

Then, the Cavs caught fire.  A three by Daniel Gibson, a Shaquille O'Neal basket, plus two free throws from the big fella cut the lead to 11.

Cleveland kept pecking away at the lead.  By halftime, the Wizards lead was down to four points at 54-50.

The teams began the third quarter trading baskets.  Anderson Varejao got the lead back for the Cavs at 59-58 on a layup at the eight-minute mark of the third quarter.  The Wine and Gold quickly extended it to four on a three-pointer by Mo Williams.

The rest of the quarter belonged to LeBron James.  LBJ tossed in 10 points, pulled down 4 rebounds and dished an assist as the Cavaliers took a five point lead at the end of the third period 78-73.

The Cavs got the lead out to 10-points at 85-75 on a three-pointer by Mo Williams.  The Cavalier' defense then slammed the door on the Wizards the rest of the way.

The Cavs were led by LeBron James with 27, Shaquille O'Neal had 21, Mo Williams had 15, Daniel Gibson 14 and Anderson Varejao with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Washington was led by Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas with 22 points apiece.

The Cavs have an off day on Wednesday.  They'll be back in action Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena against the Chicago Bulls.
