Luvollo has managed for the last eight seasons in the Indians farm system.  The last three as the manager of the Indians Triple-A affiliate (two years in Buffalo, one in Columbus).  Before that Luvollo managed the Indians Double-A affiliate in Akron.  The Aeros won the Eastern League Championship in 2005.

Luvollo was the third candidate to interview for the job as the next manager of the Tribe. Earlier this week, the Indians gave second interviews to Manny Acta and Bobby Valentine.

This isn't the first time Luvollo has interviewed to be manager of a big league team. Four years ago, Luvollo interviewed to be manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Luvollo admitted that he has some "built-in advantages" in applying for the Indians job. Luvollo has managed almost everyone on the Indians 40-man roster at some point in their minor league careers. But, Luvollo said "I don't know how much of an advantage it is, you'd have to as the Indians."

Luvollo called his interview with Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro and other members of the front office staff "an exciting time."

Wants to manage the Tribe

During his time as a player in the Major Leagues, Luvollo played for seven different managers and seven different managers. The one that influenced him the most was current Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona. Why?  "He is a great communicator, he can relate to players and he teaches the game of baseball."

On getting the team ready in Spring Training, Luvollo says the last three days of camp would be like "a mini-road trip," bringing along 25-to-27 players. The biggest challenge Luvollo will face as manager of the Indians would be "running a bullpen."
