CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner says he's discussing a possible investment in the team by businessman Jimmy Haslam.

The team announced Friday that Lerner was approached by Haslam about his interest in making an investment in the Browns. It didn't specify if Haslam wants to buy all or part of the team.

The statement says Lerner and Haslam "are currently in negotiations" and have agreed to keep details private.

Lerner says he's being careful to avoid letting the negotiations become a disruption as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Any transaction would require league approval.
