Wadsworth senior hoopster Rachel Goddard is the WAKR Student Athlete of the Week for February 22nd- March 1st.

Rachel is the senior point guard on a 20-2 Wadsworth team that is poised to make a run for a state crown.

"She has improved every year through hard work and an inner drive to reach her potential" said Wadsworth Girls Basketball Coach Andy Booth.

"Sports has been very important to my family,  I used to go watch my brothers play so it became natural for me to take my turn" Goddard said.

Rachel's father, Bill, still holds athletic records at Wadsworth High School both as a player and a coach.  Her brothers, Nick and Joe, were fixtures on very good Grizzly boys basketball teams.

"Having my Dad in the school is nice, but there is pressure there as well,  he is always trying to help me both as a coach and a father" Rachel said.

Goddard is currently averaging 13.0 ppg, 3.0 apg, and 2.4 spg.  Rachel is shooting  53% from the floor and 78 % from the free throw line.

"Rachel is a student of the game as well as being fearless on the court, and that's what you need from your point guard" Booth said.

Rachel is hoping to get a Business or Marketing degree in college while playing basketball.  Just recently she made the choice to go to Miami (OH) to continue her basketball career.

Rachel has a 3.0 GPA.
