Student Athlete of the Week: Jaquea Latimer

East High School senior point guard on the girls basketball team Jaquea Latimer is the WAKR Student Athlete of the Week for February 8th-15th.

 Latimer is a four year member of the Dragon basketball team and has become their true leader on and off the court.

"I didn't always like basketball but through my coaches and teammates I've grown to love the sport and the team" Latimer said.

"She has really become a great leader, she has had a lot of obstacles in her life and  she has used those experiences to motivate her and the team" said East Coach  LaKresia Shaw.

Latimer is currently averaging 15.0 ppg, 4.0 apg for the Dragons.

"She has set goals for herself for high school and beyond and she is well on the way to achieving those goals" Shaw said.

Latimer has  been a three year member of the school's ROTC program and is looking for a career in the Marines.  She wants to get into Traffic Control through the Marines.

Jaquea carries a 3.7 GPA.

"Being part of this team has really changed my outlook on life" Latimer said.

Latimer has been on the All-Academic Team in the City Series two years.

"Our team feeds off her energy and determination" Shaw said.

Ray has spent more than the past ten years as the morning show host on 1590 WAKR; he's also a strong voice for community discourse and programming in Akron. Ray is a two-time Pennsylvania Sportscaster of the Year and came to Akron from a long career on 1490 WMGW-AM in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
