Woodridge freshman point guard Abbe Esterak is the WAKR Student Athlete of the Week for February 1st-February 8th.

Abbe is rolling in both the classroom and the court this winter as she is maintaining a 4.25 GPA while moving into the starting lineup for the Bulldog girls basketball team.

"She is well respected on the team as she brings a positive attitude to the team every day, she works hard" said Woodridge Coach and Abbe's Father, Chris Esterak.  "She knew she had big shoes to fill but she has come in and worked hard on correcting her mistakes".

"having my Dad as the coach has been helpful,  he has really worked with me on growing up on the court" Abbe said.

On the season Abbe is averaging 8.5 ppg, and leads the team in assists at 5.0 apg.

Abbe is also a Setter on the girls Volleyball team at Woodridge and a First baseman on the softball team.  Abbe did receive the Hustle Award this past fall for her efforts on the Volleyball court.

"She is very coachable and has become a consistent player, a real key for our success" Esterak said.

Abbe  is looking to get into the Medical field once she goes to college.

Ray has spent more than the past ten years as the morning show host on 1590 WAKR; he's also a strong voice for community discourse and programming in Akron.
