RSS is a method of taking or providing website content and exporting it for other uses to other websites, personal newsreaders, businesses, email, and myriad other things. It can also provide one business with another's inventory, it can check interest rates at your local bank, or provide the latest news and weather right to your PDA. RSS stands for (depending who you ask) "Really Simple Syndication" or "RDF Site Summary" (Where, in turn, RDF Stands for "Resource Description Framework"). Regardless of what it stands for, it is a protocol for taking information and spreading it around where you want it to go, based on (get ready for another acronym!) XML, or eXtensible Markup Language. AkronNewsNow.com
is using the new RSS feed button recently adopted by Microsoft
and Mozilla/Firefox for each company's new browsers. See
Microsoft's RSS development blog
here. If you are unfamiliar with this graphic, it
indicates that the news or content section it occupies has a
RSS/XML file associated with that content and you may
subscribe to that 'feed' by using the internet address the
icon links to. This icon takes the place of buttons you might
already be familiar with, like these:
![]() Our feeds are currently RSS version 2.0 / Atom 3.0 format, and we use FeedValidator.org's RSS utility to ensure compatibility.
