Podcasting
is a method of releasing audio content to subscribers
without having to repeatedly visit a certain website to
manually download a new episode or program. Using XML
technology, many content providers can now give you an
internet address to a special file called a Podcast Feed. When
you 'subscribe' to a feed by inputting this address into your
favorite podcast-capable media player such as
Apple's iTunes,
Windows Media Player or
Winamp, whenever there is a new audio file released, it
will automatically be downloaded to your PC, PDA or MP3
player.
For
AkronNewsNow.com readers that don't wish to subscribe to the
XML podcast, a Listen Now option is available. Clicking on a
button (like the one illustrated, left) will open an embedded
audio player hosted from the AkronNewsNow.com website in a new
window. Some antivirus, firewall and web browser toolbar
programs may block the media player window mistaking it for a
'pop-up' window. Please disable pop-up blocking for
AkronNewsNow if you wish to use the Listen Now feature. The
audio content will begin playing after a slight delay as the
content is downloaded and buffered to your computer. As in all
things, download times will depend on the type, and length of
the audio file, the demand on the AkronNewsNow.com servers,
and the type and quality of your internet connection.
