CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- A central Ohio man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to a pain pill-related robbery and slaying.

The Columbus Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/13dNWyD ) reports that 33-year-old Bryan Cox of Circleville agreed to the plea instead of facing a retrial on the charges.

A mistrial was declared in June when jurors found Cox not guilty of aggravated murder but failed to reach a verdict on a variety of other charges. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Monday.

Cox was charged in the slaying of 43-year-old Rodney Metcalfe, who was shot in the head when he opened the door to his home and then was robbed of cash and pain pills.

Another man, 47-year-old Donald Shepard, is serving a 16-year prison sentence in connection with the robbery and slaying.
