LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- Denison University Provost Bradley W. Bateman has been named as president of Randolph College.

Randolph College announced Bateman's appointment Thursday.

The 56-year-old Bateman will replace John E. Klein, who will retire June 30. Bateman will be Randolph's 10th president.

The private liberal arts college in Lynchburg formerly was known as Randolph-Macon Women's College. It began admitting male students in August 2007.

Bateman has served as Denison's provost since 2007. He previously served as associate dean at Grinnell College in Iowa.
