SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) -- Two cars collided head-on Saturday on a Cincinnati-area highway, killing two women.

Police in Springfield Township say the driver of a minivan was driving west in the eastbound lanes of Ronald Reagan Highway near an interchange with Interstate 75 at around 3 a.m.

The van hit another minivan going the right way on the highway, killing both women drivers at the scene.

Police have not released their identities pending the notification of their families.

It was not immediately clear why one of the women was driving the wrong way.

Police shut down the freeway for about five hours as they investigated the crash.
