COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Republican state Treasurer Josh Mandel (man-DEHL') says he's not ready to write off his political future after his unsuccessful challenge to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

The Democrat beat Mandel for a second term last fall in one of the country's most closely-watched and expensive election fights. The Ohio Democratic Party chairman predicted afterward that Mandel would quickly fade from active political life.

Mandel referenced that sentiment Thursday when he confirmed plans to seek re-election as treasurer. He cited a few Ohio politicians who bounced back after losses and said he's happy to leave the decision to voters.

Mandel also said he blames himself for the loss in the Senate race. He said he and other Republicans need to do a better job of communicating their platforms to black voters.
