DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A special education teacher has been charged with assaulting a student in a wheelchair at a southwest Ohio high school.

Montgomery County's prosecutor says a grand jury on Tuesday indicted 49-year-old Georgia Cox of Dayton on a felony count of assault as a caretaker on a functionally impaired person. Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says Cox approached a 16-year-old boy as he was eating breakfast in the Meadowdale High School cafeteria and struck him with a closed-fist punch.

Heck says the mentally and physically disabled boy has limited verbal skills and limited mobility and occasionally would swat at teachers and students to gain attention.

A woman answering the phone at Cox's home hung up without commenting. Court records listed no attorney.

A message seeking comment was left at Dayton Public Schools.
