Cincy tries to get over loss of playmakers

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The quarterback and running back are gone. So are the top two defensive linemen. Cincinnati is going to have to try for another Big East title with a group of players in starring roles that are rather unfamiliar.

The Bearcats won a share of the league title last season for the third time in four years, led by quarterback Zach Collaros and running back Isaiah Pead.

Cincinnati has to replace seven starters on offense and four on defense. Munchie Legaux (luh-GO'), who started the last three regular-season games after Collaros broke an ankle, takes over the offense. The Bearcats will try to replace Pead - their top playmaker - with a running back-by-committee approach.

Defensive tackles Derek Wolfe and John Hughes went in the NFL draft, leaving a big hole upfront.
