COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The speaker of the Ohio House has stripped a lawmaker of his leadership post on a legislative committee after he was cited for drunken driving.

State Rep. Jarrod Martin of Beavercreek was arrested in Jackson County in July. The Highway Patrol said Martin swerved over the center line while hauling a trailer without a taillight.

The Republican from southwest Ohio has said he plans to vindicate himself in court.

House Speaker William Batchelder made the change to the House Veterans Affairs Committee on Wednesday. Martin will be replaced by state Rep. Terry Johnson, an Ohio National Guard colonel from McDermott.

Committee chairs earn an additional $6,500 annually.

Batchelder and Ohio Republican Party Chairman Kevin DeWine have asked Martin to resign. He has said he has no plans to do so.
