TILTONSVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- An eastern Ohio police chief says two part-time village officers suspected in a man's beating are under investigation by state authorities.

The Steubenville Herald-Star reports ( http://bit.ly/K0oIZ1 ) that Tiltonsville police Chief Jerry Davis says the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is looking into the case. The officers are on leave pending the investigation.

Davis says a man told village officers April 16 that a car carrying four people wearing masks and another person approached him and one man jumped out and beat him. Davis says the man had head and upper body injuries but refused immediate medical treatment.

Davis says the description of the car appeared to match one belonging to one of the off-duty officers. He says the men work full time for other law enforcement agencies.
