ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan's new varsity lacrosse team will take center stage at the Big House on Saturday when the Wolverines face Ohio State immediately after the football team finishes its spring game.
Michigan has been a power in lacrosse at the club level, but the Wolverines are now making the transition to Division I. Athletic director Dave Brandon says it's a great TV sport and can help the athletic department get even more exposure now that Michigan is competing at the top level.
Lacrosse has traditionally been dominated by eastern schools, but it's gaining more of a foothold nationally. Michigan became the first Bowl Championship Series program to add men's lacrosse since Notre Dame did it about three decades ago.
