CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities say an ambulance has rear-ended a flatbed truck in Ohio, killing the ambulance driver and the patient.

A dispatcher at the Highway Patrol's Chillicothe post says the crash happened at around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

WBNS-TV reports that the patient was bound to a wheelchair when the vehicle crashed into the truck carrying lumber. The rear of the truck then smashed through the ambulance windshield.

The Chillicothe Gazette reports the crash was just north of a hospital, where the truck driver was taken. Portsmouth-based Life Ambulance says the vehicle involved in the crash was part of its fleet, but the company declined to comment further.
