iStockphoto/Thinkstock(HOUSTON) -- A major traffic tie-up on a Texas highway this Thanksgiving has killed a person. The fatal car crash was confirmed by ABC affiliate KBMT-TV.
Dozens of vehicles crashed into one another Thursday morning on Interstate 10 outside of Beaumont, which stopped traffic in both directions. Witnesses reported a thick, dense fog when the crash occurred, but the Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the accident.
Among all the destroyed vehicles and death, 5-year-old Damien Ortiz wanted to lend a helping hand. He and his mother lost their puppy during the crash, but they are giving new meaning to the holiday spirit. Ortiz asked his mother if he could make sandwiches from the holiday turkey that they were transporting to the Houston area and give them out to those who were injured in the area while waiting for EMS.
