The Akron Police Department and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the death of a man who was struck by at least one car after apparently running onto I-76 late Friday.
It happened around midnight in the eastbound lanes of the interstate between the East Market Street and Mogadore Road exits.
Akron Police say a preliminary investigation places the pedestrian on the right side of the roadway, when he ran out in front of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound. The tractor-trailer swerved to miss the pedestrian, but another passenger vehicle driving in the middle lane struck the man.
The man was identified by the Medical Examiner as 63-year old Phah Lah of Schiller Street in Akron. The Medical Examiner's Office was scheduled to do an autopsy this weekend. Police still investigating.
