Roadway's former Akron headquarters is being sold and up to 100 employees of parent company YRC Worldwide will lose their jobs here.
The Akron Beacon Journal is reporting that the Roadway building will be sold to the developer of the new Goodyear corporate headquarters, now under construction in east Akron.
YRC officials tell the newspaper another 100 YRC-Roadway employees form Akron will be transferred to office space at company truck terminals in Copley and Richfield. Another 50 will be offered jobs if they relocate to Kansas., South Dakota and Iowa.
New YRC President Jeff Rogers says the Akron closing is a matter of economics because the company is still losing money.
The job losses are expected in March with severance packages.
