Safety is always a top priority while either swimming or boating but the Ohio Department of Natural Resources want to reinforce that message during Labor Day weekend

Jason Fallon, with the ODNR Office of Communications says its good to remind people to keep safe while enjoying the water. "When you go boating or swimming , be sure to wear a life jacket," he says.

"It's great to enjoy these activities, but it's always best to enjoy them responsibly."

Other tips include using the buddy system, never swimming alone, and only swimming in designated areas.

Traditonally, during Labor Day weekend, may people enjoy their time off boating or swimming in any of Ohio's state parks, forests, and other areas.

Fallon says that its important for people to know about the dangers of alcohol while boating or swimming."Drinking and boating or swimming don't mix," he says.

"Sometimes when people they go out on the water and they have a couple drinks, and their safety along with the safety of others is greatly compromised."
