A Portage County man is now facing child endangering charges after authorities say they found a meth lab in his garage.
Portage County Sheriff David Doak said 39-year-old James Shanes was arrested Thursday after the Portage County Department of Jobs and Family Services and detectives from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office came to his Shalersville Township home to investigate an issue with child safety.
The Portage County Drug Task Force was called to the house where they found items used to make meth in the garage.
Later that day, Shanes was arrested at a construction job site in Aurora , Police say he had methamphetamine on him at the time of his arrest.
Additional evidence will be presented to a Portage County Grand Jury where Task Force.
Agents will be seeking additional charges of Possession of Chemicals to Manufacture Drugs, Possession of Methamphetamine and 2 counts of Child Endangering.
The Sheriff's Office did not release any information on the child.
He is currently in the Portage County Jail.
