Akron Police Arrest Robbery Suspects

Akron Police have made two arrests in connection with two separate robberies in the city.

29-year old Justin M Harris, of Summit Road in Norton, was charged with Aggravated Robbery and Kidnapping. Harris allegedly entered the Little Caesars on East Ave and fired one round and demanded money. He then forced two employees to the rear of the store at gun point and took one employees wallet before running out the back door.

28-year old Joseph Burnett,of Copley Road in Akron was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Weapons under Disability. Joseph allegedly entered the Dollar General on Vernon Odom Boulevard and demanded cash at gun point. He ordered employees to the back of the store demanding they open the safe. When an officer entered the store Burnett fled out the back door. Joseph Burnett was apprehended and found to have a weapon on Dover Ave.

Akron police are investigating a pair of robberies and a shooting that occured over the weekend.

The first incident happened on Friday around 5 p.m. at a Circle K near the intersection of East Avenue and Clearview Avenue.

Police said three victims witnessed a man firing several shots at their vehicle as they were leaving the gas station.

The victim's windshield was struck with one of the bullets and another victim on a riding lawn mower reported his tire was struck with a bullet.

No injuries were reported. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.

Later that night, three suspects allegedly robbed a group of people at gunpoint, according to the Akron Police Department.

Authorities said the masked men robbed three victims on South Highland Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Police said one of the suspects struck a victim in the face with a gun.

Only a vague description of the suspects have been released.

On Sunday night, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly robbed by several suspects after she gave one the individuals a ride home.

Authorities said after the woman dropped off the passenger at a residence on Hillman Road around 10:30 p.m., the passenger joined four other people and surrounded the victim's car.

Police arrested Keith Waterbeck, 18, of Akron; Miranda Dietrich, 19, of Tallmadge; and Joshua Adams, 21, of Kent.

They were charged with robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Authorities also signed a warrant for the arrest of Derek Adams, 19, of Kent. The fifth suspect involved in the robbery has not been identified.

Update 11:41 a.m.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man killed after running into a house Friday.

Jeffere E. Blackmon, 24, of Akron, was found dead at the scene after his Hyundai Sontana ended up in the basement of a vacant home off of East Avenue in Akron.

Police continue to investigate why he lost control traveling northbound on East Avenue at about 12:45 Friday morning.

Update 8:22 a.m.

A driver is dead after his Hyundai Sontana crashed into a vacant Akron home.

Akron Police arrived to the 900 block of East Avenue at 1 a.m. Friday,  to discover two people inside the vehicle.

The man behind the wheel lost control while traveling northbound on East Avenue, drove through a vacant lot and then smashed into a house. The vehicle ended up in the basement of the home.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's office has not yet identified the victim.

One person was found dead after a vehicle crashed into a vacant Akron home Friday morning.

Akron Police arrived to the home in the 900 block of East Avenue to discover two people inside the vehicle that ended up in the basement. Police received a call at about 12:45 a.m. Friday regarding the incident.

Officers have not yet identified the victims.

Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Akron over the weekend.

The Akron Police Department and the U.S. Marshals’ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Anthony T. Hill Jr., 20, of Akron, after following up on a tip and hours of surveillance.

Hill was found outside a home on East Avenue around 6 p.m. 

Richard A. Coryell was shot and killed early Saturday morning during a fight in the parking lot of Old Haunts Tavern on East Market Street.

Hill has been charged with murder and felonious assault. He is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Akron Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Police Seek Pizza Shop Robber

A lone gunman robbed the Little Caesar's Pizza Shop in the 2-thousand block of East Avenue late Sunday night.

Employees tell police the robber pointed a handgun at employees and demanded money be placed in a purple bag he handed them. The suspect ran from the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Akron police are investigating two separate robberies that happened within eight hours of each other.

Authorities say a clerk was robbed at gunpoint around 7:00 Wednesday night at a Circle K in the 1600 block of East Avenue.

The suspect, wearing a black ski mask, fled the scene with an unknown amount of money.

Around 3:00 Thursday morning, another masked suspect attempted to rob a BP gas station in the 700 block of Grant Street.

The victim told police that the suspect handed him a note demanding money.

The suspect fled empty handed after the clerk hit the alarm and notified police.

Police have released vague descriptions of the suspects.

Police: Suspects Run Off With Snacks

Akron detectives are investigating an early Thursday morning break-in at an Akron gas station.

It happened around 4 a.m. at the Marathon Gas Station on 2115 East Avenue.

Police said three masked suspects disabled the store alarm and forced open the front door.

The suspects grabbed gum and potato chips before fleeing on foot, according to the Akron Police Department.

The suspects are described as three males wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts, jeans and gloves.
