Tour meteorologist Stewart Williams tells AkronNewsNow.com pushing back tee times was a good call so the grounds crew can get the historic course ready for play.
“We didn’t know just how much rain we were going to get,” said Williams. “That’s why we pushed the tee times back to 11 a.m. so that the grounds crew had a lot more time to prepare the course and let it drain a little bit before they got the mowers out there.”
Tee times starting through 1:10 at Firestone Country club today with Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley and Chris Wood off in the final threesome. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 70's this afternoon.
Williams suggests for fans to wear tennis shoes to the course due to the overnight rains that made some parts of the course a bit muddy.
“Today, the grass will be a little soft, especially where everybody’s been walking in the rough area, outside the ropes, in between the holes, so you may see a little mud here and there,” he explained.
He says fans should dress comfortably for the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational third round and leave the rain jackets and umbrellas at home and enjoy some world-class golf.
As for the golfers themselves, Williams says they should have very few problems with the grounds on this third day of competition.
“The greens will be softer then they have been the last couple of days, but these guys are true professionals, so they’ll adjust and it will be like target practice for them,” he said.
