The first day of demolition began Tuesday.on the Sheraton Dam in Cuyahoga Falls after numerous weather delays put the project on hold.
Cuyahoga Falls City engineer Tony Tomasi tells AkronNewsNow.com :
"The dam is being de-watered, the concrete is being removed ever-so-slowly, but it is coming down as we had planned," Tomasi explained.
Hundreds of viewers tuned in to the "dam cam" feed Tuesday morning to get a look at the demolition.
Tomasi says that if Mother Nature cooperates, the 99-year-old dam on the Cuyahoga River could be down in a couple of weeks.
"We're hoping the weather holds up for us, it looks like we could get a little bit of rain Thursday, but we hope it won't slow us down that much," he said.
"Within a week or two, people will see some significant changes and most of the concrete will be removed."
Tomasi says the dam is being removed piece by piece using a pneumatic hammer, which uses compressed air.
