A natural gas line blew out Monday morning in New Franklin near the intersection of Nimisilla Rd. and Dailey Rd.
Many area residents told AkronNewsNow it happened around 6:20 a.m. and sounded like a loud explosion or an airplane crashing.
Dominion East Ohio spokeswoman Tracy Oliver said the ruptured line serves a nearby storage well.
New Franklin Mayor Al Bollas told WONE's Jeff Kinzbach In The Morning the line released a large amount of natural gas. He said there was no fire or explosion and that the well has been shut off.
Crews were evacuating residents, but the evacuation order has been lifted. Dominion East Ohio is investigating the rupture, but has no word yet on damages or a timetable for repairing the line.
