Akron City Council is expected to vote tonight on a development agreement that will bring a grocery store to Highland Square.
Adele Roth with the city's economic development office says council members are being asked to give their okay to the city selling the land at Portage Path and West Market as well as the building that houses Chipotle and four other businesses. The approval would clear the way for a Mustard Seed Market to be built.
Roth tells AkronNewsNow the store will serve as more than a place for people to fulfill shopping needs.
"As this project has gone along - and it's been almost seven years that we've worked on it - we've also realized how important this grocery store is as an anchor to that community and to the economic development that has occurred there," she said.
Roth said when one business does well, it helps other businesses in the area by driving foot traffic to them.
The new Mustard Seed store is expected to open in a few months.
