New details are coming out about the partnership between Summa Health System and Catholic Health Partners.
Documents obtained by the Beacon Journal show the two sides have reached an agreement in principle.
Summa will still be allowed to perform vasectomies and prescribe contraceptives under the deal but will not perform direct abortions or take out a feeding tube to speed up death. All of those practices are considered immoral by the Catholic Church.
Catholic Health Partners will get a 30% stake in Summa and a 10 year operating agreement. Summa will pick up $250 million in exchange.
The deal is still under review by Cleveland Catholic Bishop Richard Lennon due to the tie with Catholic Health Partners. It's also being looked at by the Ohio Department of Insurance since Summa owns health insurance provider SummaCare.
