Internet-based company Importers Direct is moving from Jackson Township to Akron, bringing jobs with it according to Akron Ward 7 councilman Donnie Kammer.
"This developer (Importers Direct owner Tim Adkins) will relocate his internet business to Akron, and he's bringing 20 full-time jobs to the community," Kammer said.
Akron City Council unanimously approved the sale of a building on South Main Street to Adkins Holdings LLC.
Kammer emphasized that with Bridgestone and Firestone nearby. He said the move will help Firestone Park as a community and the city as whole.
"The city is really pumping a lot of money into that area, we have a lot of good restaurants, we have the Firestone Stadium, we have the Boy Scouts located there, and we have a lot of jobs located in that area, and it's a really nice thing."
The building was sold to Adkins Holdings LLC for $278,000. The City of Akron initially purchased the South Main Street building and lots for the same price in 2009 for redevelopment purposes.
