The ODNR Division of Watercraft and other law enforcement agencies will be out during the 4th of July weekend making sure that impaired boaters are off the waterways.
John Wisse, Spokesman with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources explains to AkronNewsNow.com what both the ODNR and local law enforcement will be looking for during the 4-day weekend.
"Typically weekends are the busiest boating weekends in Ohio, and for this four day holiday weekend, all of our watercraft officers assigned to waterway patrol."
Wisse says impaired boating remains a major concern with alcohol being one of the major factors in boating-related deaths in Ohio and across the country.
Wisse offers some tips for boaters to make sure your next boating trip is a safe one.
"ODNR encourages boaters to stay safe and one of the ways to do that is to boat sober, look out for any objects, boats, and people in the water, and to make sure that you wear a life jacket anytime while boating."
