City of Akron Mayor, Don Plusquellic, announced Friday that two veteran cabinet members will retire this year.
Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff Richard Merolla and Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental relations, Laraine Duncan.
Richard Merolla began his career in the 70's as an economist in the Department of Planning and Urban Development . in 1983 he was named budget director and then in 1993, he was appointed by Mayor Plusquellic as the Director of Finance . Merolla then left city hall in 1997 for the private sector, only to come back in 2000.
Laraine Duncan joined the Mayor's staff in 2001 as an assistant and then was appointed to her current position in 2004. Prior to that she worked at the Inventors Hall of Fame as the Director of guest services.
It's reported that Mayor Plusquellic is considering a list of qualified candidates to fill the open positions.
