Another bear has been spotted in the Akron area.
The sightings took place Monday morning in Stow. Parks & Recreation Director Linda Nahrstedt said a black bear was seen in several neighborhoods. Reports came in from areas near Fishcreek Rd. and Stow Rd., State Route 91 and Arndale Rd., and Berkshire Rd. between 8 and 11 a.m.
Nahrstedt said police are having a difficult time tracking the bear down.
"They have been trying to track it," she said. "But really there's not a lot they can do because they can't find it most of the time."
The bear did cross in front of a police cruiser at one point.
It's at least the third time a bear has been seen in the Akron area in the last two weeks. Police were forced to euthanize a black bear in Uniontown on May 30 after it wandered into a neighborhood. A brown bear was spotted in New Franklin early last Thursday.
A statement from the City of Stow warns people to keep their distance and remain calm if they see the bear. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources asks people to report bear sightings by calling 1-800-945-3543 (1-800-WILDLIFE)
