A five year old child is now at home after a stressful weekend in the hospital.

Five year old Joshua Shaw went through a two hour surgery to repair a broken leg after being hit by a car in front of his house Friday afternoon, on his walk home from school.

According to News Channel 5, the man who hit Joshua was driving a blue or black car, and after hitting the kindergartner got out and said that he was sorry.

Joshua's older sister Jadynn Shaw had crossed the street first and turned around to see her little brother on the ground.

"The dude got out of his car and started running towards Joshy and he started saying that he was sorry," Jadynn said.

After apologizing, the man got back into his car and fled the scene, leaving Joshua crying on the side of the road.

An older son called their mother, LaCresia Shaw, A history teacher at Buchtel High School.

She rushed home to take her son to the hospital.

"I just don't think leaving the scene of a crime, leaving an obviously injured 5-year-old child on the ground, is what a normal human being does," said LaCresia.

Joshuas father, Javan Shaw, also had a few words for the person responsible, even though he admits the accident was most likely his sons fault.

"My son's body has been broken because of something that he did," Javan said.

Javan concluded by saying, "All that I ask is that he own up to what he's done and just be a man about it. Thats the same way I'd hope to raise my son."

Anyone with information on the the hit-skip is asked to call Summit County Crimestoppers at 330-434-COPS. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
