An Akron man has been arrested after police say he robbed and knocked down a 96-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Roy Spiegel, 41, of Akron, was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary late Saturday morning.

Police say Spiegel asked for shelter from the cold when he approached the woman's home on Wednesday afternoon. He then forced his way into the 96-year-old woman's home after she refused to let him in. Authorities say he kicked the door, knocked the woman to the ground and fled the scene with her purse.

The woman suffered some bumps and bruises, but she was not seriously hurt.

Spiegel was booked into the Summit County Jail.
