Authorities are saying the estranged wife of a 32-year old Alliance man was the likely target of a pipe bomb found underneath a truck on Valentine's Day.
A suspicious device was found by the vehicle owner attached to his truck on West Main Street February 14. The man who owned the vehicle pulled it loose before officers arrived.
Alliance police said the device appeared to be a pipe bomb and was wrapped in red tissue paper, with wires coming from it. The live pipe bomb and was disabled by the Summit County Sheriff's Bomb Squad without being detonated.
On Thursday, police arrested 32-year old David “Turtle” McCoy, who is being charged with attempted aggravated murder,attempted aggravated arson, and Illegal manufacturing of explosives. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Stark County Jail where he is being held on $500,000 bond.
He will be arraigned in Alliance Municipal Court later today.
Alliance police said they believe McCoy was intending to kill his estranged wife and the man who owned the truck.
