A new report says Akron is home to one of the best hospitals in the country.
HealthGrades, a consumer health agency focusing on research and peer reviews, has named Akron General Medical Center one of the best in the US for 2013. It boils down to the facility being in the top 1-percent of all hospitals.
The city as a whole also came in the top 20 in hospital mortality rates, at less than 5-and a half percent. The number is also adjusted for risk.
Other Ohio cities fared very well in that report, with Dayton at number-one, and Cincinnati and Cleveland also making the top-20.
The survey doesn't just take data from the past 12 months, but instead accounts for information accumulated the past seven years.
Hospitals also have to consistently receive the HealthGrades Distinction Award to be eligible for the yearly list of the best in the U.S.
HealthGrades factors in mortality and complication rates for a variety of heart, joint, and spine procedures in their report.
