The Akron veteran whose house was demolished by the city is getting some financial help.
The Beacon Journal reports that Larry Modic has donations totaling about $6,000. The demolition sparked some controversy because Modic says he bought the home completely unaware that the list of housing code violations was enough to put the house on a tear-down list. The matter was complicated further when Modic threatened to kill anyone who tried to tear down the house.
State Representative Zack Milkovich got the ball rolling with a $1,000 donation, but told the newspaper that others are stepping up, too.
Modic tried to stop it through court action, but lost and the house was leveled earlier this month.
