Indians, WAKR Renew Affiliate Deal Cleveland Indians

A 50 plus year relationship continues! For the next three years Akron area Indians fans will be able to hear their favorite team on Akron’s home for the Tribe, 1590 WAKR.

"The Cleveland Indians have been an important part of our summers at 1590 WAKR for longer than any of us can remember.  Longer even than the flagship station in Cleveland,” said President & General Manager Thom Mandel. “I am thrilled to be able to call WAKR 'The Akron Home of the Cleveland Indians' for another three years."

The season will begin with live broadcasts from spring training on February 22nd against the Cincinnati Reds featuring the Voice of the Indians Tom Hamilton and Jim Rosenhaus. 1590 WAKR’s own Ray Horner will broadcast his morning show live from spring training in Goodyear, Arizona beginning the week of February 25th.

“The Cleveland Indians are very excited to extend our long-time partnership with 1590 WAKR to remain on the Indians Radio Network for multiple years,” said Cleveland Indians Senior Director Curtis Danburg.  “We are thankful of our great working relationship with the Rubber City Radio Group and are appreciative of the loyal fan base in Akron for not only Indians baseball but also for their support and listenership of WAKR.”

1590 WAKR broadcasts of the Indians began even before players like Herb Score, Rocky Colavito, Roger Maris, Jim Perry and Jim Grant were members of the ball team and when the Indians called the Cleveland Stadium their home.

WAKR is part of the Rubber City Radio Group, Inc., the parent company of 1590 WAKR, 97.5 WONE and 94.9 WQMX, AkronNewsNow.com and 107.3 WNWV The WAVE in Cleveland.
