On a story we first reported earlier, the body of a North Canton man who was allegedly murdered by a Barberton man was recently found in Tuscarawas County.
In late January, Barberton Police Detectives became aware of a homicide that happened on W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road on or around Jan 4. After further investigation, search warrants were obtained and officers arrested 52-year old John Yanik of Barberton in connection with the murder of 36-year old John Smith January 30.
Smith's body was recovered in the Conotton Creek on Somerdale Road in Tuscarawas County February 8 by Barberton Police.
They (Barberton Police) were assisted by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation in the recovery.
Police say 46-year old Stephen Batdorf of Akron, 46-year old Paul Wright of Akron, and 22-year old Trisha Copley of Barberton were also arrested for their alleged roles in Smith's murder. They are facing charges of tampering with evidence.
All four individuals are currently being held in the Summit County Jail on $250,000 dollar bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
