Plans by the city of Akron to tear down a Manchester Road house were successful this morning.
The house was purchased by Retired Army Sgt. Larry Modic, who says the previous owner never told him about numerous housing code violations that led to the place being leveled. The city says that Modic has known for months that repairs needed to be made.
Modic unsuccessfully fought it in court and, although he did lose the house, his battle brought the situation into focus. Akron City Council is now debating possible sanctions as part of a legislative proposal that would make it illegal for the owner of a house to fail disclosure of code violations.
