Freezing rain caused some slick roadways during rush hour traffic Monday morning.
Akron police closed the on-ramp to I-77 south from Copley Road before 6 a.m. after a plow truck slid off the roadway. Authorities closed the ramp for about an hour as crews worked to clear the accident. Earlier in the morning, two vehicles were involved in an accident on 77 north near White Pond.
The Summit County Sheriff's office reported several vehicles spun out on 77 south near Lobby Road. In Cuyahoga Falls, a crash involving five cars was reported near Portage Trail and Stone Road.
Turnpike officials also reported a slippery drive along I-80 in Streetsboro and Hudson.
As the ice started to melt, a slushy mix on the roads still caused some problems for drivers. Keith Harpster with Akron Snow and Ice Control said 51 crews were out all night working to clear and treat the roadways.
