Summit County residents are getting phone calls claiming to be from Medicare...but consumer watchdogs say they're scam artists.

Summit County consumer affairs office director Cynthia Sich says it's a scam...they're just trying to separate you from your money.

"They're using different tactics," Sich tells AkronNewsNow.com, "but one is 'we're updating Medcare information' or, 'we're issuing new Medicare cards, and low and behold, we need to get this information from you."

Sich says they're trying to get your bank account and other personal information.

She says it's OK to interrupt the caller, say "no thank you, goodbye" and then hang up.

Sich says Medicare won't call you asking for personal or financial information. If Medicare needs to update your information, they'll contact you via mail.
