Two women were rescued from a burning home in the 800 block of Sheridan Street early this morning.
Akron Fire Department Captain Al Bragg says firefighters arrived just after 4:30 a.m. to find the house full of smoke and flames and a woman hanging from a third story window. Bragg says firefighters were able to put a ladder up fast enough to get her down, but they found someone else once they got inside.
"Our units also made an aggressive interior attack and found another victim on the second floor," said Bragg. "They were able to get her to a window and carried her down the ladder."
Both women were taken to Akron General Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
Bragg says they don't know the exact cause of the fire, but they do have clues.
"The neighbors heard glass breaking and they heard screams and found the front porch fully involved in fire," said Bragg.
The house did not have smoke detectors.
Bragg says damage to the $50,000 home is estimated at $20,000, plus another $5,000 worth of contents were destroyed.
